DIY Mountain Nursery Mural

DIY Mountain Nursery Mural-2 levels
DIY Mountain Nursery Mural
Supplies Needed:
  • Painter's Tape
  • Pencil
  • Paint Sticks
  • 1 qt dark grey paint (we took in a piece from the crib to match the color)
  • 1 qt of white base paint
  • 2 in Paint Brush (like this)
  • Smaller brush with tapered edge for tops of mountains
  • Containers to pour paint into
The base color on our walls is Behr Juniper Breeze.

When we moved my son out of our bedroom and into his room a year ago, it was just as a trial to see if he would sleep better, so it was 0% decorated. He ended up sleeping great, so we kept him in there, and have been slowly decorating ever since. We decided to go with a mountain theme, including this DIY mountain mural because I grew up in Colorado and since we don't live near the mountains right now, we wanted a little piece of that in our house.

We looked around online to try to find a mountain nursery mural that we liked, and there was a lot of different styles! We watched this video, and kind of did our own version of it. We drew out with pencil where we wanted to paint each level. The darkest color (at the bottom) is the one we bought. We took in a piece of the crib to Home Depot and they color matched it. Then, with each layer, we added plain white paint to the dark grey to lighten it up.

The process was fairly quick, and it was easy to paint each section. It took us probably 4-5 hours total (including drying time), which was less than I was expecting.

DIY Mountain Nursery Mural-final product
I love how it turned out! We finished the mountain mural in the nursery a few weeks ago, and it makes me so happy every time I go in my son's room. We're working on finding curtains and a few other small details, and then I think it will be totally finished.
